Why is this Art? Gallery Talk: Thomas Day

Have you ever wondered, why is this art? Join us in the galleries to discuss artist Thomas Day and uncover the stories behind the bureau’s creation and its historical significance. Led by Landmarks’ Carole King (at right) and wood sculptor Homer Johnson, participants will gain insights into the cultural context of Day’s work and learn to appreciate the bureau as more than just furniture but as a true work of art.

Moderated by Kaylee Hobbs, MMFA Manager of Adult Programs, this gallery talk will help ease participants into conversations about art and is followed by an artmaking workshop in the MMFA studio with Homer Johnson.
