Creative Conversations: Art and the Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

Wednesday, January 20 at 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM

Overview

Creative Conversations, hosted by Cassandra Cavness, MMFA Development Assistant, is a series that brings artists, community members, scholars, and museum staff together to discuss art and cultural events and to learn from one another in a casual setting.

This upcoming program looks at how art affects a variety of topics: history, concepts of historical figures, public art installations, and specifically how art shaped the legacy of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., in Montgomery, Alabama. Guest speakers Madeline Burkhardt, Adult  Education Coordinator and Curator at the Rosa Parks Museum, and Wanda Battle, Tour Director for the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, discuss these concepts in relation to public art, monuments, and the rich story of Martin Luther King, Jr., and his role in Montgomery, then and now.

We encourage you to tune in live and actively engage in the discussion.
