Ming Smith: Selections from the Paul R. Jones Collection of American Art at The University of Alabama

Smith has practiced her art in New York City since the 1980s, producing photographs of jazz musicians (including her husband, saxophonist David Murray), singers, dancers, artists, actors, and other celebrities. This exhibition featured photographs of dancers Gregory Hines and Judith Jamison; musicians Lena Horne, Wynton Marsalis, Lester Bowie, Angela Bofill, Eubie Blake, Stevie Wonder, Duke Ellington, and Tina Turner; actors Samuel Jackson and Ice-T (Tracy Morrow); artists Gordon Parks and Moneta Sleet; and writer James Baldwin.
