Overview
This arrangement of steel-framed porcelain tiles is a collaboration between numerous and diverse artists who created drawings, tiles, and poetry for a mural installation at Troy University’s International Arts Center.
These panels comprise a seven-year process. The idea began in 2018 with Professor Emeritus Larry Percy suggesting an outdoor installation on the campus of Troy University in Troy, Alabama. He and visiting artist, Tara Sartorius, envisioned the concept of The Nature of Home and collaborated to guide the project through the pandemic and beyond. Talented faculty led art students in Troy University classes to create the majority of the tiles.
The participating artists all influenced the final outcome of this piece. Sartorius designed the format, selected guest artists, created many tiles from their drawings, and set all the tiles. The stories of the artists, deeper meanings of connections, and artistic and design concepts abound.
