Community Reflections: Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness

The America250 Exhibition Series

May 30 through August 16, 2026

On view in the ArtWorks Community Gallery

Overview

The second exhibition of this series references the well-known phrase from the United States Declaration of Independence’s preamble: “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

We invite student and adult artists to reflect on these foundational ideals and explore how they are interpreted, challenged, and reimagined through personal experience, social movements, and collective memory. Whether your work celebrates the progress made, confronts harsh realities, or envisions new futures, we invite your creative voice to the evolving conversation around freedom.

Jurors welcome a variety of artistic interpretations.

The America250 Exhibition Series

2026 is the 250th anniversary of the United States’ Declaration of Independence. This milestone aims to be more than patriotic spectacle. It’s a chance to reflect on what American has been, who we have included and left out, and how we build a more perfect union for the next 250 years.
