On view in the Weil Graphic Arts Study Center

Overview

The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts built its collection of European Old Master Prints since 1970, supported by an endowment fund created by Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Weil in1976 in honor of Mr. Weil’s parents. A dedicated collector of these works, Adolph Weil, Jr. appreciated the educational value of traditional European art as a foundation for the appreciation of later American art. The Museum holds more than 500 Old Master prints, dating from the 15th to the 19th centuries. The collection contains examples by some of the greatest masters of the early print media, from Albrecht Dürer through James McNeill Whistler. This installation in the Weil Print Study gallery features highlights from this outstanding collection.
