Overview
The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts’ collection surveys the full panorama of American art, from early examples of the 19th century through the most recent works of the 21st century. Contemporary American Paintings from the MMFA Collection focuses on bold, expressive paintings by contemporary artists whose styles range from vibrant abstraction to captivating depictions of our world and our society. These works reflect the diversity of modern American art and offer viewers a rich visual experience. We take this opportunity to examine the Museum’s modern art in the context of American art’s rich history, and with this milestone celebration, we take the opportunity to showcase these electric pieces side by side.
The scale of these pieces surrounds visitors with color, texture, and movement. Their presence transforms the gallery space, inviting viewers to engage physically and emotionally with the art in a way that is immersive and awe-inspiring. As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence, this exhibition honors the creativity and vision of the artists who continue to shape our understanding of the world around us.
