Community Togetherness Project

Student Response to the Global Pandemic

April 2 through July 11, 2021

On view in the ArtWorks Gallery

Overview

The student work on view conveys feelings and fears that we have all felt during this time of uncertainty and confusion. Themes reflect feelings of loss, anxiety, and isolation confronted during this time as seen through the eyes of children. Threaded throughout the works are also symbols, messages, and images of hope, love, and the need for human connectedness. These artworks show us how art can help heal and connect us through shared experiences. The process of creating art has long been understood as therapeutic but the act of looking and experiencing arts can also help us visualize and contextualize complex emotions and thoughts that often we do not know how to convey ourselves. This exhibition gives both artist and viewer an opportunity to have a shared experience of living through this historic time and emerging wiser and kinder on the other side.
