Beyond the Wall

Student Art

November 26, 2022, through February 26, 2023

ArtWorks Corridor Gallery

Overview

The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts will show BOUNDLESS, an exhibition of large-scale art installations that will transform our galleries and use the ceiling and floors as the artists’ creative “canvas.” The exhibition title comes from Jean-Jacques Rousseau, an 18th-century philosopher, who wrote, “The world of reality has its limits; the world of imagination is boundless.” These artists use repetition and both traditional and non-traditional materials, such as mirrors, foam, glass, paper, twine, fabric, cardboard, and everyday objects to create unique sculptural installations. See artists’ links below for inspiration, and let your imagination run free and create.

Submission Information

Students are asked to submit three-dimensional work using mixed media or non-traditional materials that can hang on the wall. The subject matter is open to interpretation. There is a limit to one entry per student. Entries may be no larger than 18×18 inches (but they may be smaller). Work must not exceed six inches in depth and must be ready to hang on the wall. Please remember to label each submission. Works may not be composed of food or edible materials. Only works that meet the size requirements and can hang on the wall will be accepted. Works submitted without a complete entry form will be ineligible.
