Once again, the Museum is pleased to partner with the Montgomery Art Guild in its 44th biennial exhibition of contemporary regional art. On view in the Museum’s galleries, the exhibition contains an exciting variety of media, subjects, and themes. Complementing the juried exhibition is a selection of oil paintings and drawings in pastel, charcoal, and pencil by featured artist Marguerite Edwards. Recognized for her captivating portraits of justices, senators, and many others, Edwards is also known for her stunning still lifes and landscape imagery.
Meet the Juror
This year we are excited to announce that Wendy Castenell, Assistant Professor of African American Art in the Department of Art and Art History at The University of Alabama, will jury the 2021 MAG exhibition. Her research interests include representations of race and ethnicity in American visual culture, portraiture, photography, early cinema, and turn-of-the-century spectacles. Castenell will select between 60 and 80 works from approximately 400 entries from about 100 artists. These selections showcase some of the best contemporary art created in the River Region today.
Organized by the Montgomery Art Guild and the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.
Support for this exhibition was provided by sponsors AlaCOMP and Elizabeth Crump, with additional support from co-sponsors Lucy and Hans Luquire, Paula and Nelson Smith, Renasant Bank, and Ann Hubbert.
