Tessellated Tiles (and Tasty Treats) with Tara Sartorius

Wednesday, November 5 at 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Adults | Free, advanced registration required

Reveal the “nature of home” with artist Tara Sartorius! This two-part workshop involves creating a 4-tile tessellated air-dry clay piece for wall display, and a short poem to go with it. Session 1: Designing and Making Participants will complete a worksheet which includes a tessellated design for their tiles and instructions for how to formulate their poem. The Nature of Home exhibition by Tara Sartorius is currently on view at MMFA. The 20 steel-framed panels reflect individuals’ interpretations of the idea of “the nature of home” on porcelain tiles and in poetry. This workshop is free with the generous support of the Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program. Advanced registration is required as space is limited. For questions or information about this workshop, contact Tiiwon Siaway at 334-625-4359 or email, tsiaway@mmfa.org

OLLI is a free program for seniors offered in partnership with AUM, made possible through generous support from the Art Bridges Access For All Grant.

Instructor Tara Sartorius

Tara moved to Montgomery in 1986 to fill the role of Curator of Education at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. Prior to that, she attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY for her MFA in sculpture and art criticism. Before graduate school Tara taught art to elementary school children in Santa Barbara, CA. Tara was attracted to Montgomery by the project of developing an interactive interpretive gallery (now the very popular ArtWorks Gallery) and by the colorful landscape with its deeply difficult history. She believed she could make a positive difference. What she thought would be a three-year “career ladder” stopover turned into a 40-year lifetime commitment with more twists and turns than she could have ever imagined.
