Signature: Enhance Your Portfolio

Saturday, January 15 at 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Signature is the MMFA’s new professional development series, offering artists at all stages of their creative journeys opportunities to learn how to better market themselves and strengthen professional portfolios.

The second meeting of the MMFA’s new professional development series for local artists will begin with insights from entrepreneur and arts professional Kalonji Gilchrist on the importance of putting your best foot forward with your portfolio. Then, area photographers Nystasha Kelly and Marcus Dorsey will be present to take headshots of and photograph up to three works of art from each registered participant. Registration is required and capacity is limited.

About the Speaker

Montgomery native and cultural arts enthusiast, Kalonji Gilchrist, is the executive director of 21 Dreams Arts & Culture Collective which he founded in 2016, and the owner of KHARI Creative, LLC which he began in 2019. He has a deep passion for supporting a community rich in the arts that celebrate and preserve its cultural history.

About the Photographers

Marcus Dorsey is from Montgomery, and he received a Bachelor of Science degree in graphic design with a minor in fine and performing arts from Troy University. His photography, much like his love for theater, has a pretty dramatic style. Though photography is his main form of art, he also enjoys ceramics and drawing.

Nystasha Kelly is a Montgomery-based graphic designer and photographer whose initial artistic visions keep her attuned to both the design as a whole and the message to be conveyed. Her photography emphasizes the value of feeling comfortable in one’s own skin and questions  the idea that society dictates confidence. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design from Alabama State University.
