Overview
In connection with the Spotlight Series: Yvonne Wells exhibition, the MMFA will host the Central Alabama Alliance Resource & Advocacy Center’s (CAARAC) Change the Pattern in Alabama quilting project in our studios. This project includes instruction on memorial quilt panel construction, applique techniques, and a sewing circle to raise awareness and fight the stigma surrounding the HIV/AIDS epidemic within communities of color.
Participants are invited to work on submitted names or bring their friends’ and/or family members’ names to be remembered on a memorial quilt panel. No quilting experience is required for this free event. Join us to honor the lives lost to HIV/AIDS using the powerful and rich storytelling traditions of quiltmaking.
