Creative Conversations: Art Connects

Overview

MMFA Curator Jennifer Jankaukas and MMFA Community Arts and Engagement Coordinator Laura Boqcuin will lead a discussion around the process of bringing the community-curated exhibition Art Connects to life. Dr. Sheila Austin, Carissa Crayton, Jason Oswalt, and Sarah Adkins, who were all participants in the project, will also join the discussion and share their experiences of contributing to the exhibition. 

Dr. Sheila Austin

Dr. Sheila M. Austin, Dean of the College of Education at Auburn University at Montgomery. Dr. Austin is currently in her 50th year as an educator. She has been awarded numerous awards for her service as an educator and community leader. She is the author of the book Secrets on How to Be a “Super Leader” Nuggets of Wisdom to Inspire Your Journey.

Carissa Crayton

Carissa Crayton is from Sylacauga, AL and is the Business Development Associate for the Alabama Department of Commerce. She graduated from Alabama State University with a B.A. in Political Science and a Minor in Legal Studies. Carissa is a member of numerous organizations including the Junior League of Montgomery, MMFA Junior Board, Rotary Club of Montgomery Sunset, Leadership Montgomery’s Torchbearers Class VII, and U.S. Global Leadership Coalition.

Sarah Adkins

Sarah Adkins is a Montgomery-based actor, director, and theatre educator, who has worked with Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Cloverdale Playhouse, and Troy University Department of Theatre and Dance. As Assistant Artistic Director of Nora’s Playhouse, a non-profit women’s theatre collective, and a Project Manager at Equal Justice Initiative, she is deeply committed to community engagement in the arts and social justice.
