About the Speaker

Dr. Karcheik Sims-Alvarado is the author of Atlanta and the Civil Rights Movement, 1944–1968 and the newly released Georgia and the Power of the Vote. She has served as chief historical advisor and exhibition designer for the Nobel Peace Prize Museum in Sweden, TIME magazine’s virtual reality exhibit, The March, and the King Center’s Women, Soul of the Nation exhibition opening in 2026.

She is currently working to preserve the historic homes of Grace Towns Hamilton and George Towns in Atlanta, as well as the residence of W.E.B. Du Bois in Accra, Ghana. In 2024, she received Harvard University’s Derek Bok Public Service Award.

Dr. Sims-Alvarado is Assistant Professor of Africana Studies and Director of Public History and Historic Preservation at Morehouse College.
