I.M. Pei: A Profile in American Architecture (Revised Edition)
With many illustrations of his creations, this book tells the story of the life and career of architect I.M. Pei, famous for his designs of museums. The discussion will be hosted by Alice Novak, MMFA Curator of Education, in honor of Museum architect, Jim Barganier.
Questions to Consider
- What distinguishes an IM Pei building? Consider both form and function and context (how the buildings relate to their surroundings and cultural and historic references.)
- When reading about Pei’s designs for cultural institutions, please consider what informs the design of our Museum. How does MMFA announce itself as a place of learning, culture, or inspiration? What does the structure invite us to do? How does it relate to its park setting?
