Overview
Designed for art educators
February’s workshop combines geography and art. MMFA educator Elisabeth Palmer will guide participants in a map making lesson that involves self-reflection, symbolism, and storytelling.
This multi-part lesson gathers data through brainstorm techniques and analysis of example maps, visualizes the data through the creation of visual symbols, and encourages reflection and revision through sharing and presenting maps to each other.
The Art and Science of Cartography
Cartography uses both scientific knowledge for accurate data collection and representation AND artistic skill to create visually appealing representations. The goal is to communicate complex information in a clear and understandable way.
This program is free to all and registration is not required. For more information, please email Elisabeth Palmer at epalmer@mmfa.org.
