Community Partners

The education department is thankful for the many community partners that help to make our programs successful.

Montgomery Public Schools

The Museum works closely with Montgomery Public Schools to offer tours, classes, after school programs, and studio classes throughout the year.

Wares Ferry Road Elementary

Beginning in the fall of 2013, the Museum formed a partnership with Ed Drozdowski, Principal, and Wares Ferry Road Elementary third grade teachers, to start the Museum’s first Artist-in-Residence program. Throughout the year, the Museum works closely with artists and art educators to offer studio and art history lessons to third grade students. The program is designed to promote visual literacy, art history and artistic processes.

Art Ed Central

Art Ed Central is a group of dedicated and passionate art teachers in Alabama who meet at the Museum monthly to develop and share lesson plans, many of which are based on the Museum’s permanent collection and temporary exhibitions.

Booker T. Washington Magnet High

Over the past two years, the Museum has worked closely with Booker T. Washington Magnet High, including partnerships with Emily Thomas and Foster Dickson to create quality programs for high school students.

The City of Montgomery | Weed and Seed Program

In partnership with the City of Montgomery, the MMFA education department works closely with Claire Watson and the Weed and Seed program to organize “Art in the Afternoon,” a year-long after school program. The program is funded in part by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts.

If you are interested in partnering with the Museum’s education department to develop tours, classes, programs, and workshops for teachers, students, and adults, contact the Education Department.
