April 19 through June 15, 2014

CUR_P_Jones_MusiciansPaul R. Jones collected scores of portraits of African-American artists, musicians, actors, and other celebrities. This exhibition includes paintings, sculptures, prints, and photographs of James Baldwin, Paul Robeson, Duke Ellington, James Van Der Zee, Harriet Tubman, Hayward Louis Oubre, Jacob and Gwendolen Knight Lawrence, Sammy Davis Jr., B. This is part of an exhibition series selected from the Paul R. Jones Collection of American Art at The University of Alabama. Jones (1928-2010), described by Art & Antiques magazine as “one of the top collectors in the country,” amassed one of the largest and most comprehensive collections of 20th-century African-American art and donated much of it to The University of Alabama.
