Journey Through the Collection
August 22 through November 01, 2015
Journey Through the Collection is the MMFA’s first ever docent-curated exhibition. The MMFA’s docents are trained volunteers who lead tours of our collections and temporary exhibitions, and deliver other educational opportunities for our visitors. The roles of art in our lives—conveying the visual power of beauty and great design, as well as prompting individual contemplation and intellectual curiosity—provide the framework for this show. The works of art are divided into several thematic areas as they were identified through docent eyes. Remembering the Past showcases art that docents often use to relay social and cultural history. The works in A Picture is Worth 1000 Words invite the audience to discover the story, whether laid out by the artist or created by the viewers’ interaction. The Isms & Styles section displays the various styles of art as they evolved in the 20th century. Visitors can explore the creative process in various media through works included in How Do They Do It? The subjects depicted in Echoes of the South remind the viewer of the strong sense of place embodied in Southern culture. Journey Through the Collection takes a fresh look the ways our MMFA collection serves the Montgomery community and our visitors.
