Gallery Talk and Book-Signing by Ray Smith
5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
A grand adventure is always worth revisiting. In 1974, Ray Smith traveled around the U. S. for months, photographing people and places along the way. Smith says, “photography…is more closely related to literature, especially fiction…than it is to the other visual arts. Whether the location is a city sidewalk, a back yard, a roadside, or a door front, for me the portrait is primary, and the photograph is a short story exploding beyond its frame.”
Please join the artist to discuss the photographs in the exhibition In Time We Shall Know Ourselves: Photographs by Raymond Smith, followed by a book-signing of the catalog, which illustrates all 52 photos with essays by Richard King and Alexander Nemerov.
