On this day in 1886 in Guanajuato, Mexico, Diego Maria de la Concepcion Juan Nepomuceno Estanislao de la Rivera y Barrientos Acosta y Rodriguez, also known as artist Diego Rivera, was born. Rivera was a prominent Mexican painter of large frescoes that helped establish the Mexican Mural Movement in Mexican Art. He was married to well known Mexican artist Frida Kahlo (twice!), and painted a wide variety of subjects, including "Woman with Basket", which we have just added to our permanent collection.
Happy birthday, Rivera!
