Each workshop offers an opportunity for teachers and guest artists to share lesson plan ideas, view art in the Museum’s galleries, create hand-on art projects, network with other professionals, and earn certification hours. Art Ed Central is a regional division of the Alabama Art Education Association. Learn to draw objects with expressive line and shading, using a limited selection of media, under the direction of this well-known artist and AUM (Auburn University in Montgomery) instructor. Costume Design Workshop

Using 1920s costume illustrations from the Ballet Russes, French Art Deco prints, the Ziegfield Follies and the Carnival of Venice as inspiration, participants will create costume pieces suitable for a fancy dress ball using a variety of materials and techniques.  Designs for masks, hats, capes, fans, sashes, scarves, gloves and other accessories will be created using craft techniques such as hand sewing, iron-on appliqué, fabric painting and gluing, among others. Space is limited to 20 participants. Sign up early for this unique opportunity to work with two well-known artists, with years of experience in theatrical costume design!

Sculpting a Portrait

Create a clay portrait in bas-relief working with a nationally recognized sculptor of life-size bronze figures in this day – long workshop. Participants are encouraged to bring to the workshop photographs of the person they want to sculpt.. All other supplies will be provided, and the finished ceramic relief sculptures will be fired in the Museum’s kiln.
