Flimp Festival
10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Join us for an exhilarating and creative approach to art. There will be art-related activities and entertainment including a sidewalk chalk art competition and live theatrical and musical performances by Booker T. Washington Magnet High School. Guests can look forward to a new student performance every 45 minutes. There will also be interactive demonstrations with Museum Store artists, a scavenger hunt, and concessions. The festivities will kick off with the ever-popular Do-Dah Pet Parade.

The event is free for all MMFA members, active-duty military and their immediate families. Tickets can be purchased the day of the event and are $5 for adults and $3 for children.

Family Art Affair

The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts will join 150 other AAMD-affiliated art museums across America in celebrating Art Museum Day on Sunday, May 21, 2017 from 2 to 4 P.M. Art Museum Day is scheduled to coincide with the celebration of International Museum Day, which is this year on Thursday, May 18, 2016.  To mark the occasion, the MMFA will host a special edition of Family Art Affair and Jazz Jams on May 21, and as always, admission is FREE.  The Museum encourages guests to share their experiences at the MMFA’s Art Museum Day celebration via social media, with the hashtag #ArtMuseumDay.

The MMFA will be offering three youth summer camps this year. All three camps will focus on the elements of art and promise to be fun and engaging, and participants will leave with an armful of their own artworks created in the studio. Participants will spend time in the galleries, engage in group discussions, and be inspired by a variety of media, such as clay, printmaking, paint, mixed media, and sculpture. Camp fee includes snacks and all materials used in art making. Campers are encouraged to sign up for more than one week of camp to get the full experience. All full-day campers are asked to bring a lunch every day. The camps are designed with working parents in mind, as extended hours are offered. Camps are limited to 20 students, so enroll today!

Bring a box of objects, patterns, books, and photos that are precious to you and that you would like to capture, and we will work on arranging them and expressing them on canvas. This workshop is meant for students who already have a basic knowledge of painting and would like to take their compositions, color-relationships, and ability to create a believable sense of light and air to the next level.

Join us as we learn about the vivid work of German Expressionist Hans Grohs.  Assistant Curator of Education Elisabeth Palmer will lead discussions of Grohs’ prints in the exhibition Hans Grohs and The Dance of Death.  Participants will also be inspired to create their own “Grohs prints” in the studio.
