FLIMP Chalk Art Competition

The drawing times for the FLIMP Chalk Art Competition will be Friday May 2 and the morning of Saturday May 3, before the Festival begins. Chalk artists create inspired works of art in the Museum’s parking spaces, and the MMFA provides materials to all who register on time. During the FLIMP Festival, visitors enjoy the vivid chalk drawings in the parking lot gallery, and local celebrities judge the winners.

Mixed Media Chalk Block Party
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join the Museum’s Mixed Media group for an informal gathering prior to Saturday’s Flimp Festival.  A chance to mix and mingle with the young and young at heart, get a preview of the Chalk Art competition in the parking area, and enjoy a spring evening in our always beautiful Blount Cultural Park.  A cash bar and food vendor will be on-site to provide plenty of libations and delicious snacks.  This is a FREE event sponsored by the Museum’s Junior Executive Board.

Experienced artists as well as those beginning to paint will want to take advantage of this unique opportunity to paint on site in an inspiring outdoor landscape. Two of the region’s most successful plein air painters will offer demonstrations and instructions in this informative workshop.

Featuring the Pine Hill Haints and the Owsley Brothers The Junior Executive Board will host its third annual Art in Concert featuring Alabama band the Pine Hill Haints. The traditional bluegrass, folk, honky tonk, and country band “Ghost Train,” “When You Fall,” and “Walking Talking Deadman.” The concert will open with the Owsley Brother, a  psychedelic garage blues band is from Freeport, Florida. The rock group is known for songs including: “Rotten on the Vine” and “Blood and Fire.” They just released their latest album in August. We thank Stivers Ford and AUM for being repeat lead sponsors! Tickets are $10 in advance until October 8 at 6:00 P.M.  Tickets at the gate will be $15

Concert begins at 7:00

Rain or Shine.  Food and Beverages will be for sale, no outside coolers permitted
